We’re hopeless romantics at heart—deeply invested in the idea that your love story deserves more than just documentation—it deserves to be felt. To us, this work is sacred. It's not just about the footage; it’s about capturing the tremble in your voice as you read your vows, the stillness between the chaos, and the look in your partner’s eyes as they see you for the first time.
At The Proper Collective, we craft wedding heirlooms with depth, elegance, and a refined cinematic lens—so that decades from now, when you look back at these moments… it brings you back to the way it felt.
The Proper Collective was born from a real-life love story—ours. As partners in both life and creativity, our journey began with a single camera and a spark of curiosity. When Madeline purchased a camera to create content for her boutique, Kurt picked it up first—and never put it down. That curiosity quickly became passion, and soon after, we filmed our first wedding on a whim for a friend. From that day forward, we were hooked.
What began as a spontaneous favor has grown into an intentional, artful approach to wedding filmmaking, photography & curation—rooted in emotion, story, and style.
These aren’t just our guiding principles—they’re the heartbeat of how we work.
Creating Visual Stories that increase in value and meaning with the passage of time.
Every frame, every sound, every shift in perspective is chosen with care. Nothing is accidental.
We believe the most beautiful stories are the honest ones—unfiltered, unrehearsed, and truly yours.
Your story isn’t just captured—it’s felt. Our work is meant to move you, again and again.
While we take our work seriously, we keep our hearts light—our days often fueled by caffeine, laughter, and the occasional Broadway sing-along. Madeline is equal parts coffee devotee, yoga instructor, and former professional dancer who can’t resist a good musical. Kurt’s the basketball guy with a heavy music playlist, yet somehow knows every word to Les Mis. We believe in balance—quiet mornings, loud playlists, deep talks, and spontaneous dance breaks. At the heart of it all is family—ours, and the ones our couples are just beginning to build.
Our business was born from our own love story. We’re partners in life and in creativity, and this all started with a single camera and a whole lot of curiosity.
Kurt + MadEline
the creative founders
First shooter - Editor
For Kurt, wedding filmmaking is the perfect way to stretch his creative muscles—blending artistry with the honor of telling a couple’s love story on one of the most meaningful days of their lives. His approach is rooted in authenticity and flow, favoring natural, cinematic shots and smooth, intentional movements that make each film feel effortless yet deeply emotional. He’s especially drawn to first looks and personal vows, where raw emotion drives the heart of the story. Though he might look like a tough guy, Kurt is a softy at heart with a love for musicals (Les Misérables tops the list). Outside of weddings, you’ll find him immersed in music, playing basketball, and soaking in family life—his greatest source of inspiration.
Second shooter - Director
Madeline first fell in love with storytelling through photography, but film captured her heart with its ability to bring emotion to life. To her, weddings feel like real-life romantic comedies—filled with anticipation, laughter, and love. She gravitates toward the subtle details—a bride’s nervous hands, a groom’s quiet stance—as those fleeting moments often tell the biggest stories. Her favorite to capture? The first look, where intimacy and excitement collide in a single breath. Outside of weddings, Madeline balances her creative spirit with a career in finance and channels her artistry as a Pilates and yoga instructor, a natural extension of her years as a dancer.
Second Shooter & Story Architect
Eric approaches wedding films like a director approaches a feature—crafted with intention, layered with emotion, and designed to feel like you’re watching your own history unfold on screen. He loves the ever-changing nature of wedding days, capturing multiple perspectives that couples will revisit for a lifetime. His favorite moments? The raw emotion of first looks and heartfelt letter readings—the kind of scenes that stay etched in memory forever. Outside of weddings, Eric is a guitar-playing music lover who believes sound is just as important as the visuals in telling a story. By day, he works in IT and is diving deeper into the world of security, but on wedding days, his creative side takes the lead. After years of filming alongside Kurt, he’s learned that there’s always more to discover—and more magic to capture.
Second Shooter & Visual Storyteller
For Eric, filming weddings is about more than documenting—it’s about preserving emotion in its purest form. His natural, intentional approach allows him to blend in seamlessly, capturing moments as they truly happen and shaping them into cinematic stories that feel honest, timeless, and impactful. He’s especially drawn to the quiet intimacy of a first look—when time slows, nerves and joy collide, and the world feels like it’s just the two of them. Outside the lens, Eric has a surprising love for the dark and moody—horror films, psychological thrillers, and dramas that linger with you long after the credits roll. He finds inspiration in powerful movies, music, travel, nature, and the creativity of other artists, all of which influence the depth and emotion in his work.
